The University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point (UWSP) College of Natural Resources (CNR) is seeking a tenure-track faculty position in Fisheries & Water Resources. This is a joint annual appointment with the UWSP CNR within the Fisheries and Water Resources discipline and the Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE). As a UWSP faculty member, the candidate has responsibilities for undergraduate teaching of upper-level courses (25% of the position) and for outreach education with the CWSE (75% of the position), which is partially funded through an agreement with the Division of Extension at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
Interested candidates should apply by April 26 for full consideration. The review of applicants will begin after that date and continue until the position is filled.
Ph.D. in a water resources-related field such as hydrology, hydrogeology, watershed management, environmental engineering, or allied field by the time of appointment.
Demonstrated ability to develop an applied research program that provides water quality management information that is useful to Wisconsin communities, individuals, and stakeholders.
Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to lay audiences.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated experience or ability to conduct outreach activities and programming for targeted audiences related to water resources.
Experience with undergraduate teaching and/or mentoring of students in research.
Experience integrating hands-on techniques such as field-based measurements or analytical instrumentation into coursework and applied water quality research.
Demonstrated ability to integrate geographical information systems, spatial analysis, or data visualization skills into research and Extension products.
About College of Natural Resources - University of Wisconsin Stevens Point
The College of Natural Resources (CNR) is one of the largest comprehensive natural resources undergraduate programs in North America. This position would serve in the Fisheries and Water Resources discipline, which includes BS and MS degree major options in fisheries and aquatic sciences, hydrology, and water resources. Students majoring in this curriculum learn to manage fisheries, other aquatic wildlife and the habitats and people who influence them, streams, lakes, groundwater, and watersheds, and water quality for aquatic ecosystems and humans. The discipline is home to the Center for Watershed Science and Education (CWSE).
The CWSE is a UW-Stevens Point and UW-Madison Division of Extension (Extension) collaborative outreach and statewide engagement center. The Center works across the state of Wisconsin and beyond:
• Supporting watershed stewardship
• Assisting citizens with lake, river and drinking water quality problems
• Promoting strategies for water resource protections
• Providing water quality assessments and support
• Preparing UW-Stevens Point students for careers as water resource professionals.
