The Senior Accountant reports directly to the Director of Accounting for Austin Transit Partnership (ATP). This position is responsible for providing financial information to management by preparing, researching, and analyzing accounting data and preparing intermediate level reports.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES Note: The essential duties and primary accountabilities below are intended to describe the general content of and requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties. Maintain accounting ledgers by posting, and reviewing accounting transactions, ensure transactions are processed in accordance with ATP policy, applicable laws and regulations, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as established by Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), and sound business practices.
Prepare and/or review asset, liability, inventory, and/or capital accounting entries by compiling and analyzing general ledger account information.
Process payroll and W-2 reporting in compliance with applicable policies, laws, and regulations.
Process, reconcile and verify accounts payable invoices and 1099 statements in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and financial policies.
Prepare month end journal entries, reconcile bank and general ledger accounts, and resolve account discrepancies by reviewing and reconciling statements and transactions, investigating documentation, and making corrections as required.
Work closely with the department staff to support the financial accounting of capital projects, fixed assets, and operating expenditures.
Conduct physical inventory, review purchase requisitions and invoices for proper coding, reconcile inventory, fixed asset accounting, bank, and investment reconciliations.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements for external reporting by preparing various financial reports and analysis.
Maintain financial security by following established internal accounting controls.
Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field
Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience reconciling financial accounts, preparing, and reporting financial data, and maintaining complex databases
Oracle Software experience preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Skill in processing large volumes of numerical data and performing basic mathematical calculations.
Skill in analyzing, preparing, calculating, and balancing routine fiscal transactions and accounts.
Skill in preparing reports and interpreting applicable policies, regulations, and guidelines.
Ability to identify issues/discrepancies, gather/analyze and present data to provide accurate information for management’s use.
Ability to prepare accurate financial statements at an intermediate level of complexity.
Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships within the department and with other departmental peers.
Equipment and Applications Must have the ability to learn and understand the computerized accounting systems that operate within ATP’s financial system. Must have intermediate level experience in using Microsoft Office 365 which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS Minimal travel may be required
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS Work is generally performed in an office environment but requires occasional visits to construction job sites. Job may entail considerable levels of stress as this job works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature.
Subject to standing, walking, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting of objects up to 25 pounds; may occasionally be exposed to dangerous machinery, extreme weather conditions, physical harm, hazardous chemicals, and extreme noise when conducting site visits and working in the field.

creating and deploying “transit supportive anti-displacement strategies;” and
approving interlocal agreements and the Joint Powers Agreement with the City of Austin and CapMetro.
