Assess, plan, develop, organize, coordinate, and implement safety training for the electric and broadband office and field staff. Administrate the apprenticeship and department training programs. Manage the tree trimming and pole inspection programs, including the oversight of contractors and the resolution of issues.
- Plan, recommend, develop, schedule, implement, and conduct safety programs and training for the Electric & Broadband Utilities.
- Coordinate and provide technical support to department safety committee.
- Coordinate the Department and Divisional Safety Meetings.
- Participate in the City safety committees.
- Conduct safety audits, perform job hazard analysis and investigate accidents and injuries. Prepare reports, maintain records, and present findings to Risk Management.
- Recommend and implement safety performance standards and evaluate effectiveness of safety programs. Establish OSHA and EPA compliance standards and coordinate testing and certification schedules. Provide recommendations to safety committees and Risk Management.
- Coordinate the activities and documentation of the Apprentice Boards. Maintain employee records and evaluations. Assist in the development of and administer formal tests to apprentice workers.
- Participate in disaster planning, business continuity planning and remediation through the City of Longmont emergency response teams.
- Assist the Operations in emergency situations and during outages.
- Manage the operations of the tree trimming program. Monitor contractor activities and compliance with contract. Track program data including cost percentages for electric and Nextlight.
- Manage the pole inspection program including monitoring contractor activities and reporting.
Performs essential duties and additional tasks in a manner which enhances City Attributes.
Work is conducted both inside and outside. Work may include exposure to extreme weather conditions, sun, electrical energy, noise, dust, fumes, smoke, gases, solvents, grease and oils. Involves moderate (15 to 49 lbs.) lifting and carrying, sitting, standing, walking, pulling, pushing, crawling, bending, kneeling, stooping, twisting, squatting, and climbing to widely varying degrees depending on circumstances. Requires sufficient visual and mental ability to read and understand documents, maps, and other detailed written materials. Must have the ability to analyze issues, facts, and data and solve problems. Must be able to understand and apply principles of electric theory.
A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial or Safety Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Risk Management or related field. A minimum of three years of related utility industry experience with emphasis in safety, risk management and training.
Possession of an Electric Journey Lineworker certification is required and may be substituted for educational requirement.
