Candidate is responsible for Management of the City’s Advanced Transportation Management System (ATMS), including 228 Traffic Control Signals and 34 CCTVs utilizing a mixture of serial and Ethernet communications along a fiber optic backbone, as well as manages maintenance of ~800 City-Owned Streetlights.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, traffic signal system monitoring and operation, development of coordinated traffic signal timing plans using calibrated models, addressing traffic flow problems and public safety concerns, oversight and analysis of data collection activities, traffic signal installation and maintenance inspections to ensure compliance with existing plansand standards and oversight of necessary corrective actions should discrepancies be found, development of traffic signal designs, ensuring all requirements of the NCDOT maintenance contracts are met and preparation of contract reports. Candidate will be responsible for directly supervising two staff members (Signal System Specialist, ITS Maintenance Supervisor) and indirectly supporting eight others (ITS Technicians) which includes prioritizing and assigning work, conducting performance evaluations, ensuring staff are trained, and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations. This position also works occasionally with two Sr. Traffic Engineering Technicians regarding CADD and GIS assignments.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible engineering experience, including a minimum of two years signal timing and analysis experience, knowledge of traffic safety standards and equipment is required.
Valid North Carolina Professional Engineer License or the ability to obtain NC PE and valid driver’s license is required must meet NC DMV standard.
Knowledge of MUTCD and NCDOT traffic signal design operation standards and procedures.
Knowledge of fiber optic routing and splicing design.

Additional Salary Information: Starting salary will be competitive and is dependent on the selected candidates' qualifications and experience.
