Position Summary Michigan State University invites applications and nominations for an educator and scholar with the vision to serve as Chairperson of the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE). The CMSE department (https://cmse.msu.edu/) is entering its fifth year as one of the first academic units in the nation to focus on computation as a discipline. Currently housing over 30 faculty members, the department seeks to educate the data-driven work force of the future and build collaborative interdisciplinary teams with expertise in algorithm development, data analytics, mathematical theory, and application domains. CMSE faculty have joint appointments in 11 units and are leaders in astrophysics, bioinformatics, geosciences, machine learning, medical imaging, plant science, quantum chromodynamics, soft matter physics, scientific computing, large scale simulations, and topological data analysis.
Required Degree Doctorate -Computation or equivalent field
Minimum Requirements Chair candidates should be committed to the advancement of undergraduate and graduate education, have a distinguished record of research and professional accomplishment, have strong leadership and management abilities, and be dedicated to promoting diversity and inclusion among students, staff and faculty. Continuation of an active research program is expected and will be supported.
The successful candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the rank of tenured full Professor.

A statement presenting the candidate's vision for the growth of the research, teaching, mentoring, and diversity components of CMSE, as informed by personal experience. 3).
