Position Summary: The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Utah State University invites applications from candidates for a tenure track faculty position in Hydraulic and Fluid Mechanics Engineering anticipated to begin in August 2018. This is a full-time 9-month, academic-year position. Applicant reviews will begin on December 15, 2017. Relevant research and teaching experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred: experimental hydraulics and instrumentation, computational fluid dynamics, hydraulic structures, open channel flow, sediment transport, pipeline hydraulics (storm sewer, culverts, distribution systems, etc.), and two-phase flow. The successful candidate's expertise is expected to be complementary to the research and teaching activities of the water engineering faculty in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. It is expected that this position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level; however outstanding candidates may also be considered at the associate professor rank. The department currently has 29 full-time faculty members. The department is continuing to grow with current enrollments of approximately 370 undergraduate and 90 graduate students.
Utah State University is home to the Utah Water Research Laboratory (UWRL), a premier water research institution focused on applied hydraulic and fluid mechanics engineering, water resources, hydrology, hydroinfomatics, remote sensing, environmental water quality, and water and wastewater treatment. The UWRL is also home to a very active and highly regarded hydraulic research laboratory (uwrl.usu.edu). Utah State University is a land-grant university founded in 1888. Responsibilities: Primary responsibilities will include conducting hydraulics engineering research and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in hydraulics and fluid mechanics. Candidates are expected to build an active externally funded research program and provide effective teaching and mentoring at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
Qualifications: Minimum Qualifications:
Earned hydraulic engineering doctorate in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
Demonstrated ability to conduct hydraulic engineering research and disseminate findings in appropriate outlets (high quality peer-reviewed journals and technical conferences).
Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
To be considered at the associate professor level, the following additional qualifications must be met:
An established research agenda with a publication record.
A strong record of extramural funding.
A well-recognized record of excellence in research, teaching, and supervising graduate students.
Ability to write grant proposals to support scholarly activities.
Ability to teach fundamental undergraduate hydraulics and fluid mechanics courses.
Ability to teach advanced graduate courses in hydraulic engineering.
