The Faculty of Veterinary and Agricultural Sciences, THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA wishes to appoint up to FOUR new academic PLANT SCIENCE positions within its School of Agriculture and Food.
The positions are available from Lecturer to Professor and can be offered as either continuing (tenured) or fixed term (nontenured) appointments will a minimum of a three year term.
We seek applicants with a strong research track record in any of the following areas:
Biotechnology of Nutrient Uptake and Utilization Specific areas of interest include design of crop plants with increased nutrient use efficiency, molecular basis of plant nutrition, plant response to nutrient stress, N and P uptake efficiency. Engineering nitrogen use efficiency, improved Phosphorus uptake and use efficiency, improving nutrient accumulation in seeds and grains. Candidates whose research program integrates a broad spectrum of biochemical, molecular, genomic and genetic transformation technologies applied to agriculturally relevant plants, are especially encouraged to apply.
Crop Plant Genome Editing Specific areas of interest include use of Targeted genome modification /engineering synthetic gene networks/ Genome-editing tools for improving crop genotypes for enhanced resistance / improved productivity. Researchers with experience in crop genetic transformation technologies and design of CRISPR/Cas vectors for precise genomic modifications are encouraged to apply.
Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology General areas of Plant Molecular Biology/Biotechnology include, but are not limited to, environmental signal transduction and mechanisms of plant stress tolerance to biotic stresses, water deficit, high salinity, nutrient deprivation, temperature extremes, impacts of environmental factors on vegetative and reproductive development. Candidates whose research program integrates a broad spectrum of biochemical, molecular, genomic and genetic transformation technologies, including gene-editing approaches applied to agriculturally relevant plants, are especially encouraged to apply.
Plant Pathology Specific research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Fungal Pathogen Genetics and Genomics, Molecular Plant-Microbe Interactions, Comparative Genomics, Molecular biology, genetics and proteomics of plant-microbe interactions, Molecular Plant Pathology, - Identification of fungal pathogens associated with yield decline of crops, Identification of fungal pathogenicity factors, population genetics, Biosecurity - Mitigating risk of incursion of exotic fungal plant pathogens.
Commensurate with academic career stage, applicants will have experience in teaching, research, and leadership as well as demonstrated capacity to collaborate effectively and build successful teams by fostering academic excellence in others. For all these positions, we are seeking candidates with exceptional promise to develop externally funded internationally recognized research programs.
Remuneration from AUD98,775 to AUD187,654 p.a. + 17% superannuation (pension), depending on position and experience.
